Realizing and identifying the issue
At first, I thought it was just a random power disconnection by the monitor when I pressed the fan switch, but then I discovered that it happened almost consistently when I pressed either the table fan switch or the light switch.
Initial troubleshooting
I was afraid this had something to do with the power supply or graphics card, but the display was functioning properly during gaming, so that was a relief.
I thought of every possible cause I could think of related to the PC, but none seemed to fit, as nothing happened when the PC was under heavy load. Everything was working normally, except when pressing the light and fan switches. That led me to think it was the wiring in the house. But I didn't want to believe that was the cause, because other electronics in my house seemed fine.
Why did the monitor turn off briefly
So, I looked up online trying to find a solution, and I stumbled upon the video below.
The person in the video above says the culprit was his low quality monitor cable. And you know what? I did buy a cable replacement for my monitor that I was using at the time, which looked similar to the ones he had.
My monitor only has a VGA port, so I had always bought VGA-HDMI/DP/DVI adapters for my GPU. But they were the ones built with just an adapter, just like you see in the picture below.
The cable causing my monitor to turn off was an adapter cable; it was a single cable with both VGA and DVI connectors. So, it was a cable with one end having a VGA connector and the other end having a DVI connector.
Just like the guy's cable in the video, mine was also 'gold-plated'.
Replacing the faulty monitor cable
I've changed my monitor cable and stopped having the issue. Monitor did not turn off briefly anymore when switching the fan or light.
