RSMB and Motion Blur Settings in Premiere Pro and Davinci

Why I use low motion blur settings

These are my personal motion blur settings for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Compared to YouTube tutorials, I use a relatively low amount of blur.

Most of the guides I see on YouTube add too much blur to the video clips, which affects and distorts the text on the screen. If you prefer that level of blur, you may need to minimize the text displayed in your game.

So, my low motion blur settings are intended to minimize or avoid text distortion.

How to add motion blur to video

For those who don't know, to use motion blur in Vegas and Premiere Pro, you need a plugin called ReelSmart Motion Blur (RSMB).

For DaVinci Resolve, there are two options:

  1. The free version uses two built-in features called Optical Flow and Vector Motion Blur (a Fusion effect in the Fusion page).
  2. The paid version (Studio) uses one built-in feature called Motion Blur (an effect).

I apply this effect to my game footage set to 30 fps because I believe it makes the motion blur look more beautiful.

My thoughts on motion blur effect from these 2 software

RSMB in Premiere Pro produces better motion blur; however, it takes a long time to process. It is also easier to avoid affecting the text with RSMB while still achieving a good amount of blur. On the other hand, DaVinci Resolve's motion blur provides satisfactory results in a much shorter processing time.
